Yousuf Pathan missed the last two games for SRH due to soreness. Deepak Hooda was brought into the side as his replacement and he is likely to be retained for this final league-phase encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was rested for the last match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Basil Thampi was given a chance and he had a horrible day in the field leaking 70 runs off his four overs. But having already confirmed a top two spot, the Sunrisers may want to try him out once more before finalizing their combination for the playoffs. Wriddhiman Saha is still recovering from his shoulder injury which means Shreevats Goswami will probably get an extended run.
Their top three in Shikhar Dhawan, Alex Hales and Kane Williamson hold the key to the Sunrisers’ batting. Williamson is giving a tough competition to KXIP’s KL Rahul for the orange cap. The skipper smashed his eighth half-century of the season in the last match against RCB and nearly took his team over the line. Dhawan has also been in fine form while Hales with his aggressive approach is another dangerous batsman at the top. In the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the Sunrisers will look to the spin duo of Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan to take wickets and keep KKR’s run-rate in check. The former with 16 wickets has been their best bowler this IPL and batsmen may not find it easy to score off him. The latter was impressive with figures of 2-21 in the reverse encounter at the Eden Gardens and the team will want him to come up with a similar performance here.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have not only sealed their place in the playoffs but have also confirmed a top two finish at the end of the league stage. They are currently leading the IPL 2018 standings with 18 points after 9 wins and 4 losses from 13 matches. After winning six on the bounce, SRH have faced defeats in their last two games – against Chennai Super Kings at Pune and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bengaluru. They did a good job with the bat in both those matches but ended up losing due to below par bowling performances.
In the last game against the Rajasthan Royals, pace bowler Shivam Mavi replaced leg-spinner Piyush Chawla who was ruled out with a side strain. If the latter gets fit in time, Kolkata Knight Riders could bring him back since the wicket is expected to offer good turn for the spinners. The team may also consider going for the seasoned campaigner in Mitchell Johnson in place of Javon Searles for this crucial encounter.
Dinesh Karthik looks in good form and he will be the key man with the bat for KKR. The skipper has scored 50 and 41* in the last two games and he is also the leading run-getter for his side. While Chris Lynn is one of the most feared batsmen in the game, Sunil Narine has shown how destructive he can be at the top of the order. The team should see themselves in a strong position if one of the openers is able to bat deep into the innings. Spinners did a very good job in the reverse fixture at home and the skipper will once again look to spin for strangling the Sunrisers. Narine is amongst the season’s top five bowlers with 15 wickets and he will be a big threat here along with Kuldeep Yadav who claimed match-winning figures of 4-20 last time against Rajasthan Royals.
Kolkata Knight Riders are currently placed third on the IPL 2018 points table with seven wins and six losses from thirteen league matches. With 14 points in the bag, the Knight Riders are just one more win away from getting their hands on the ticket to the playoffs. They beat Rajasthan Royals comfortably at home with six wickets and two overs to spare and it was their fourth win in the last six matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders Prediction
Kolkata Knight Riders will be under more pressure here as they need to win this match to assure themselves of a playoffs berth while Sunrisers Hyderabad who have already qualified for the next stage will be playing with complete freedom. With that said, while SRH are coming into this match on the back of two consecutive defeats, KKR won their last two games and so they will be carrying momentum with them. The Knight Riders however will be wary of the fact that their away record this IPL has not been that impressive and they will be facing the Sunrisers at their home ground where the hosts have won five of their six matches this season. We therefore expect Williamson and his boys to end the league stage on a high and take momentum into the playoffs.
