Rajasthan Royals have received a big blow ahead of their do-or-die clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore as two of their star players Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are set to join their national team in England to prepare for the forthcoming test series against Pakistan. The team could bring in wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen as replacement for Buttler and one of D’Arcy Short or Ben Laughlin for Stokes.
With the in-form Jos Buttler no longer available, the Royals will look to the likes of Sanju Samson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Tripathi and D’Arcy Short (if he gets the opportunity) to score the big runs. Samson had cracked an unbeaten 92 off 45 balls in the reverse fixture at Bengaluru and the team will hope that he is able to replicate that performance. Skipper Rahane has not been at his best and it will be crucial that he steps up and leads from the front. Bowling, as has been the case for the Royals throughout this season, will rely heavily on paceman Jofra Archer who is the side’s leading wicket-taker. Ish Sodhi will be their best option from the spin department and the team will need him to tighten the screws during the middle overs.
After beating Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to secure three wins in a row, Rajasthan Royals’ playoffs chances took a big hit with a crushing six-wicket loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match. With 12 points from 13 league games, they are currently sixth in the Indian Premier League 2018 standings. The fate of the Royals is hanging by a thread and they need to ensure a win in their final league match against RCB at home to have a shot at making it to the playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore do not have any injury issues to deal with ahead of their must-win encounter against the Rajasthan Royals as all their players seem to be in good physical condition. The current line-up is working out perfectly for RCB at the moment. They have now won three games on the trot with the same combination and they are highly unlikely to tweak it heading into this game.
As always, RCB will look to their star batsmen Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to do the damage when it comes to batting. Both of them are featuring on the list of IPL 2018 top ten batsmen with 526 runs and 427 runs respectively. Moeen Ali and Colin de Grandhomme too have started to come good with the bat and can take the attack to the opposition once they get going. RCB’s pace attack will be led by Umesh Yadav who has had a fantastic season with 17 wickets under his belt. The pace bowler is third on the wickets charts and is a top contender for providing the early breakthroughs. Yuzvendra Chahal had troubled Rajasthan Royals the most in the reverse fixture at Bengaluru and he is likely to give them a hard time here as well.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have given their playoffs hopes a big boost with a 14-run victory at home over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match. Prior to this, they beat Delhi Daredevils by five wickets and annihilated the Kings XI Punjab in away fixtures. With three wins in a row, RCB have leapfrogged Rajasthan Royals in the league standings and are now occupying the fifth spot with 12 points from 13 matches. They have shown collective team effort in their last three games and their key players have stood up in crunch situations.

Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Prediction
With both teams needing a win to stay alive in the tournament, this game can be seen as a virtual quarter-final and so pressure on both the teams is going to be alike. Rajasthan Royals do have the advantage of playing on their home ground where they have won four out of six matches this IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore on the other hand have not done too well in their away fixtures with just two wins from six matches. Those two wins however have come in their last two games which should give them some confidence ahead of this clash. While the Royals have won four of their last six head-to-head encounters, RCB have the upper hand in the fact that they have beaten the hosts three times in the last four matches at their fortress. Also, the Royals will be without two of their key members in Stokes and Buttler and this should tip the scales heavily in favor of RCB.
