Hours after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their home advantage owing to the Cauvery water dispute which forced the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift CSK’s remaining home games (6) to Pune, the team has hit another rough patch. CSK’s star player Suresh Raina ruled out for two matches because of a calf injury.
England all-rounder David Willey has been roped in by the Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for injured Kedar Jadhav for the remainder of the ongoing 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Raina won’t be appearing in the matches against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Sunday and against Rajasthan Royals in Pune on April 20. The development will mark a first for Raina as he hasn’t ever missed a Super Kings match.
Raina had suffered the injuries during Super Kings’ match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Raina’s missing the matches is a big blow to the Men In Yellow as even Kedar Jadhav is not playing due to hamstring injury in the side’s opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI).
Following the massive protests that were witnessed in Chennai on Tuesday as various fringe groups protested against the IPL’s return to the city in pursuance of the Cauvery water-share agreement-linked IPL boycott call, the showpiece cricket tournament is likely to be shifted out of the city.
As per sources, the remaining IPL matches that were to be held in Chennai will now be moved to Pune.
On Tuesday, hundreds of protestors had amassed outside the Chidambaram stadium before the match and had to be removed by the Police which had also been stationed there in large numbers. While the match did go on and saw the home team recording a stunning win over the Kolkata Knight Riders.
